The Jemison Public Library was recently awarded two grants for library improvements.

“We are so excited,” Librarian Tammie McGriff said. “It was great to hear we received the money.”

One of the grants for $1,000 will go toward the purchase of a new computer for the library.

McGriff said the computers at the library are frequently used by patrons who need to work on them for school projects, building resumes or for work.

“People come in all of the time to use the computers so it will be really nice to be able to update them,” McGriff said.

Currently, the library has three computers and will add a fourth with the grant.

A second grant for $1,000 was awarded to the library for the annual Fairytale Show held at the Jemison Municipal Auditorium Complex.

Weaver said she attended the Fairytale Show in 2014 and was “amazed” to see the number of people who attend the event.

“I think the Jemison Public Library is a great asset to the city,” Weaver said.

Weaver encouraged McGriff to apply for a tourism grant, and the city was awarded the grant for the Fairytale Show.

McGriff plans to purchase decorations, columns and bar style tables for the event.

“This money will help us out so much,” McGriff said. “In the past, we have just used what we had to make everything work, but this will allow us to buy some nice things.”

This year’s Fairytale Show is scheduled for April 24 at 6:30 p.m.
