Several members of Chilton County’s state legislative delegation have been selected for important leadership roles.

During the organizational session of the Alabama Legislature this week, Sen. Cam Ward, Rep. Mark Tuggle and Rep. April Weaver, all of whom represent all or parts of Chilton County, were appointed as committee chairmen.

Weaver said Chilton County would benefit from having several lawmakers representing the county on committees.

“Chilton County is well represented in state leadership,” Weaver said. “It’s a very exciting time for Chilton County.”

Ward will serve as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, after holding the same position for the past four years.

Ward said the committee handles more bills than any other, dealing with important issues including court reform to corrections.

“It should be an exciting time,” Ward said. “It’s a hard-working committee, but it’s something that’s very rewarding. It will be beneficial to Chilton County to have someone dealing with public safety.”

He will also be vice-chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee, in addition to serving on the health, budget, confirmations, transportation and energy, and constitution and elections.
