Clanton Family Health is encouraging residents to “Be a Health Superhero” with an open house and community screening event from 1-4 p.m. on Jan. 19.
The clinic is located at 107 Medical Center Drive in Clanton.
The public is invited to the free event, which will feature refreshments, games, a bounce house, door prizes, goody bags and other entertainment.
“Our purpose in planning this event is to officially introduce ourselves to the community and highlight new services,” said Kendall Roper, certified physician assistant. “Clanton Family Health has been present in the community for many years but in the past has had limited engagement in community events.
“Our facility closed in October of 2011 due to loss of funding. We reopened in June 2013 with a renewed eagerness to serve our community. Since reopening, CFH has been thriving, and we look forward to now being able to provide the entire family care in one location.
The event will also serve to introduce American Board Certified Pediatrician Dr. Abdulsattar Zidan to the community.
Zidan will begin work at the clinic after the event.
Zidan will offer free pediatric screenings at the event including vision, dental, vaccine record review and consultations.
Roper will offer free adult screenings including blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index.
“Health screenings are crucial,” Roper said. “When it comes to children, they aren’t necessarily going to say to you, ‘My vision is blurry, or ‘Mom, don’t you remember I need that one vaccine I missed?’ During this event, we will screen for those deficiencies, and if found we can intervene when it counts the most.
“Regarding adults, many times patients with elevated blood pressure or elevated blood sugar are asymptomatic, and these abnormalities are only found during a screening. The best medicine is preventative medicine. If you can catch elevations in blood pressure and blood sugar early you can prevent some of the consequences that would be inevitably left untreated. These include kidney failure, blindness and premature cardiovascular disease.
Clanton Family Health is part of the Health Services Inc. network of clinics.
HSI is the parent company of 12 central Alabama community clinics. These clinics are Federally Qualified Health Centers.
The clinics operate partly on federal dollars through grants, as well as funds from third party payors and patient fees. All HSI clinics offer primary care services to uninsured and underinsured patients.
Patients who lack health insurance are eligible to receive care using an income-based sliding scale. Clinics also accept most insurances including Medicaid, Medicare, Healthsprings, BCBS and more.
CFH patients have access to onsite services but also company-wide services which include adult and pediatric primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, adult and pediatric dental, adult and pediatric vision, adult and pediatric mental health, social services, a wellness center, translators, a mobile clinic, diabetic education and laboratory services.
“Our mission is simply to provide ‘care with compassion,'” Roper said. “At CFH, we strive to make your health our greatest priority. While caring for your body, we make sure not to neglect the mind, heart and soul.
Zidan completed his pediatric residency at Marshall University in Huntington, W.V. in 2011. Since that time, Zidan has been working as a pediatrician for HSI at River Region Health Center in Montgomery.
He resides in Montgomery and is married to wife Rahaf Baki and has two daughters, Leen (5) and Judy (2).
Roper completed PA training at the University of South Alabama in Mobile in 2006. Since that time, she has practiced in many fields of medicine including general/trauma surgery, hospitalist medicine, emergency medicine and primary care.
Roper has been a resident of Clanton since 2007. She is married to Randy Roper and has two boys, Will (3) and James (16 months).
