Residents of Chilton County will be treated to a “joyful noise” on Friday as noted Southern gospel group Greater Vision comes to Clanton.

The award-winning trio will be in concert at First Baptist Church in Clanton’s Christian Life Center, with the show starting at 7 p.m.

FBC Minister of Music Jimmy Veazey said the group was one of the more prominent acts in their genre.

“For those not familiar with Southern gospel music, Greater Vision is one of the premier groups,” he said. “They’ve been around for 25 years now. They’re known not only for their vocal ability but also for their songwriting ability. They’re prolific songwriters.”

According to the trio’s website, Greatervisionmusic.com, “The Singing News Magazine and the Southern Gospel Music Association have named Greater Vision Gospel Music’s Favorite Trio. They have also received numerous honors for Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and Artist of the Year.  Additionally, Rodney Griffin has been named Songwriter of the Year every year since 1998, as well as being named Favorite Baritone multiple times. Gerald Wolfe has been named Favorite Male Vocalist seven times.”

Veazey said despite the accolades, the trio’s members have anything but a superstar mentality.

“I had them (perform) at a former church, and found they are very down to earth,” he said. “These guys are very ordinary, down to earth people. We feel very fortunate to have them here.”
Veazey said there was no cost to attend the concert, but that those who showed up late might have trouble finding a seat.

“We’re going to have a full house,” he said. “This is the most phone calls we’ve ever had (for a show). I’d encourage people to get here early. We’re looking forward to a great evening.”

The doors will open at 6 p.m. For more information, contact First Baptist Church Clanton, located at  210 Sixth St. N., at 755-3840, or visit the church’s website at Clantonfirstbaptist.org.
