A wreck Saturday in Thorsby resulted in multiple injuries–and damage to a home.

Two vehicles collided around noon Saturday at the intersection of Dakota, Concordia and Franklin streets.

A passenger in a sedan was airlifted from the Jemison “park-and-ride,” at Interstate 65 Exit 219, to UAB Hospital, according to Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett.

Barnett said the injuries sustained were considered life-threatening but that the victim had shown improvement by Monday.

At least one passenger in the other vehicle involved, a pick-up truck, was also transported to an area hospital, though the injuries were considered not as severe.

There were three occupants in the truck and two in the car.

Barnett said it appeared the truck was traveling east and the car was turning onto Dakota Road when the vehicles collided.

“We really don’t know why they hit,” he said.

The driver of the truck apparently lost control during the wreck, and the vehicle struck a house near the intersection.

Barnett said no one was home at the time of the incident. The truck striking the house caused significant damage, including the structure being knocked loose from its foundation.

“You can see where the house shifted,” Barnett said.
