Clanton will apply for a grant for a new fire truck.

The City Council, at a regular meeting Monday, approved applying for the grant.

The new truck would cost about $490,000, and Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the city would have a better chance of receiving the grant if the city were willing to put up a 50-percent match, and the motion made and unanimously approved was to that effect.

The council approved applying for another, smaller grant for fire department supplies and protective equipment.

In other business, the council:

•Approved the transfer of a beer and alcohol license to the new owner of the Shell station off Highway 31 near Interstate 65 Exit 205.

•Declared surplus a 2010 Dodge Challenger that was confiscated during a drug arrest. The city will try to sell the vehicle.

•Approved to post job openings in the fire department after the recent resignations of five part-time firefighters.

•Was invited by Janice Hull with the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce to the Chamber’s open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 2.

•Approved the minutes from the Nov. 10 meeting.
