Panthers earn win on the road at Thorsby

After splitting the first two sets with Thorsby, Jemison’s volleyball team improved to 15-14 on the season with a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21) victory on the road Monday.

Jemison won the opening set on strong serving and costly errors by the homestanding Rebels.

Taylor Ray and Emily Spain led the offense with two kills apiece, while Ashley Dutton, Kelsey Lowery and Hannah Robinson each recorded service aces. Dutton chipped in three assists as well.

Thorsby took Set 2 as the Panthers struggled on serve receive and at the net with a total of 10 errors.

Dutton was the lone bright spot on offense, contributing three kills, three assists and four digs. Kelson Cole had seven digs for JHS.

The Panther offense returned to form in Set 3, hammering out 14 kills to take the game.

Ray posted four kills, C.C. Wright added three, and Spain, Cole and Cassini Steele had two apiece. Dutton once again stood out with seven assists and six digs.

Jemison took Set 4 and the match on the strength of its offense and strong serving, as Steele knocked down three kills, while Spain and Wright added two each.

Ray contributed a pair of service aces, while Lowery had one ace in Jemison’s longest scoring stretch of the game.

Spain and Steele combined on a pair of blocks at the net as well.

The Panthers will celebrate Senior Night on Thursday, hosting Montevallo at Alton Cobb Gymnasium, then will travel to Helena for their area tournament on Oct. 21.

Jemison will take on Calera at 4 p.m. in the first round of the tourney.
