No injuries reported after vehicle catches on fire on I-65

No injuries were reported after a vehicle carrying a family of five caught on fire shortly after 9 a.m. on Interstate 65 southbound Friday.
Sgt. Tyler Snow with the Jemison Fire Department responded to the call of a vehicle on fire near I-65 Exit 219.

“The car was heading south to the beach on vacation,” Snow said. “It was a mother and father who were about mid-30s, and they had three children traveling with them.”
Snow said once on the scene, the 2003 Buick Lesabre was fully involved.
“When we got on the scene, we saw the family on the hillside as the car was burning,” Snow said. “The father had cut his head trying to get out of the car, but everyone was OK. We provided medical care and extinguished the fire.”
The initial dispatch call indicated the driver of the vehicle advised something “fell out from underneath the vehicle” and the driver “pulled over and the engine compartment was on fire.”
Snow said it was unclear why the vehicle caught on fire.
Jemison Fire Department, Jemison Police Department, Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.
Snow said I-65 southbound was shut down for more than an hour as emergency personnel worked the scene of the fire.
