Two men were arrested Wednesday after leading police on a chase.
Joshua Mathew Cleckler, 24, of Clanton and Jeremy Cobb Deavers, 25, of Clanton were arrested at about 6:30 p.m. and face charges related to the chase and drugs found in their vehicle after it was stopped.
A 16-year-old girl was also in the vehicle and apprehended. She was released to her parents, with charges pending through juvenile court.
The chase began when Clanton Police officer Patrick Quinley and Sgt. David Bone attempted to stop a pickup truck driven by Cleckler on Airport Road.
The driver refused to stop, and the officers were led on a chase through the Refuge community.
Chilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies placed spike strips across the road near Gap of the Mountain Fire Department to disable the vehicle. The subjects were taken into custody in the Hickory Chip restaurant parking lot.
Cleckler was charged with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deavers was charged with obstructing governmental operations, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Throughout the chase, they were throwing items out of the vehicle we believe to have been part of a ‘shake and bake’ meth lab due to some of the components found in the car,” Clanton Police Chief Brian Stilwell said.
No bonds had been set as of Thursday morning.
