When police arrived at the scene, they found 40-year-old Lisa Langston of Clanton dead of a gunshot wound in a yard next to Slab Hill Road, Lemley said.

Watson was held in custody pending further investigation Dec. 5, and warrants were obtained for his arrest Dec. 6 following the investigation.

Watson has been charged with murder and was held in the Shelby County Jail until he posted bond, which was set at $75,000, Dec. 7.

Murder is a class A felony. If convicted, Watson could face between 10 and 99 years in prison.

Watson has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 9 at 8:30 a.m. with Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves. The hearing will be located at the Shelby County Courthouse.

Funeral services for Langston were held Monday as friends and family grieved over the tragic circumstances related to Langston’s death.

Langston’s sister, Heather Bradley, recalled on Monday that her sister was a loving person with a good heart.

“She was artistic and creative and she always got her point across about something,” Bradley said.

Although Bradley is still coping with the loss of her sister, she said she wants to forgive.

“I am praying for the other family involved in this situation,” Bradley said. “Lisa loved her family, especially her two children and we will all miss her very much.”
