An employee at the LeCroy Career Technical Center was arrested Tuesday on 18 different charges for suspected theft.

Tameka Winters, 37, was arrested after the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office conducted an investigation of suspected theft at the request of the Clanton Police Department due to a conflict of interest.

The investigation began after employees noticed some unusual accounting practices.

After an investigation, Winters was arrested and warrants were served for one count of theft of property first degree, one count of ethics violations and 16 counts of possession of a forged instrument second degree.

The bond amount was set at $100,000.

“I want to thank Chilton County Board of Education Superintendent Dave Hayden and LeCroy Career Technical Center Director Tommy Glasscock for their full cooperation,” Chief Deputy District Attorney C.J. Robinson said. “This looks like another case where it appears that public funds were taken for private use. Now that the investigation is complete we can begin the prosecution of the case. The truth isn’t always pretty, but it needs to come out.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, Winters was being held in the Chilton County Jail.
