A group of individuals in Clanton is sponsoring a banquet to benefit Through the Grace of God Ministries on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.

The banquet will be held at First Baptist Church of Clanton with a dinner, silent auction and entertainment from the Russell family in Clanton who will be singing and performing a Christian comedian act.

Chrissy Hand, who helped organize the event, said this is the first year for the banquet.

“We wanted to put together something that raised money for the less fortunate and would go toward the new kitchen facility at Through the Grace of God,” Hand said.

The ministry unveiled a new cafeteria building in October with a commercial-sized kitchen equipped to serve more people in need.

The 2,400-square-foot building was a work in progress since June 2, 2012, with volunteers who donated their time to making sure all of the details for the building were complete.

Now the kitchen is equipped with amenities such as food warmers, a cafeteria style serving area, a double convection oven, ice machine and all gas appliances so the ministry can serve more people in need of hot meals each week.

Hand said Ralph Bingham, who is the director for the ministry, will help serve the food at the banquet on Thursday.

Space is limited for the banquet, but Hand said there are a few spots available for anyone interested in attending.
