The lawyer for a Montevallo woman charged in September with murder and reckless driving in North Chilton County waived a preliminary hearing early Wednesday, sending the case to a grand jury that will meet in February.

Amanda Rhoden Kizzire, 31, of Montevallo was originally charged with murder, driving under the influence and reckless driving in conjunction with a head-on collision Sept. 6 that resulted in a fatality.

Kizzire was scheduled to appear in front of Chilton County District Court Judge Rhonda Hardesty on Sept. 25, but her preliminary hearing was rescheduled to Oct. 16.

Neither Kizzire nor her legal representation was present during the time of the Oct. 16 hearing.

Hardesty decided to reschedule the preliminary hearing for Wednesday at 9 a.m. due to Kizzire’s request for her $150,000 bond to be lowered.

Hardesty said in court Wednesday that Kizzire’s lawyer filed a waiver early Wednesday morning for Kizzire’s case to be presented to a grand jury.

Neither Kizzire nor the lawyer representing the case was present in court Wednesday.

Hardesty also said Kizzire made her $150,000 bond and has been released from the Chilton County Jail.

Kizzire’s charges stem from a crash that occurred on Sept. 6 at 5:40 a.m. when a motorcycle driven by David Thomas Bryant, 35, of Jemison and SUV driven by Kizzire collided head-on near County Road 95.

Calera Police Department Sgt. Deven Heathcock said Bryant was killed at the scene, and Kizzire was transported to UAB and treated for minor injuries.

She was released from the hospital later that day.

Kizzire was arrested by the Calera Police Department on Sept. 9. CPD issued an arrest warrant for the three charges of murder, driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Although the wreck happened inside Chilton County, the portion of the road near the wreck is patrolled by the Calera Police Department within the city of Calera’s jurisdiction.

The lawyer representing Kizzire was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
