The Chilton Crimson Tide club will host a pep rally for Alabama fans Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at Clanton First United Methodist Church.

The event will include a visit from Big Al and former University of Alabama football player Martin Houston.

Houston rushed for more than 1,000 yards while playing at the University of Alabama and played on two SEC Championship Teams and the 1992 National Championship Team.

Chilton Bama Club member Kendall Williams said Houston is an energetic speaker, and he is excited for others to hear him speak.

“We are really excited about having him and hope people will come out to hear him,” Williams said.

Admission to the pep rally is $5 per person for non-members.

Kids under 6 are free.

“We will have hot dogs and potato chips, a drink and a dessert,” Williams said. “You don’t have to register for the event.”

Williams said the club is also taking applications for the Judy Melton Mims Memorial Scholarship the club gives out each year.

A completed scholarship application, including the resume portion, must be submitted online by Dec. 15 at mybama.ua.edu and the application must have been admitted to UA prior to the Dec. 15 date.

Williams said the scholarship is for an enrolled incoming freshman attending the University of Alabama and must be from Chilton County.

“We have done the scholarships since 2009 and we have awarded three so far,” Williams said.

Last year’s scholarship was awarded to Denham Childress from Thorsby High School with more than $700 raised by the Chilton Bama Club for the scholarship.
