What began as a small beauty pageant in the early years of the Thorsby Swedish Fest has now become one of the largest and most prestigious beauty pageants in Chilton County.

The 2011 Thorsby Swedish Fest queens are Tiny Miss, Averie Ann Littleton; Little Miss, Ivie Hope Littleton; Young Miss, Haylie Patterson; Junior Miss, Darian Hope Green; and Miss Thorsby Swedish Fest queen, Tara Caton.

The Miss Thorsby Swedish Fest beauty pageant offers five age categories that compete for a crown, sash, rhinestone crown pin, flowers and gifts from local businesses. These age groups are Tiny Miss (age 2-5), Little Miss (5-7), Young Miss (8-11), Junior Miss (12-15) and Miss (16-19). The winner of the Miss category will also be awarded a $1,000 college scholarship!

One queen, four alternates and one photogenic winner will be selected for each age category by highly qualified judges from out of town. The Swedish Fest pageant has grown so much in the number of contestants over the years that it now requires two nights to cover all the groups. Admission at the door will be $5 per person, and a program that includes all the contestants will be available for $1 each.

A new Baby Miss Photogenic Only competition is being made available for ages 0 – 24 months. Entry fee for this category is $20. Judges will select one winner, which will be announced at the Monday night pageant, on Oct. 10.

The newly crowned Thorsby Swedish Fest Queens will represent Thorsby for an entire year at local functions. They will also participate with fundraising for Relay For Life, Angel Tree (underprivileged Christmas program) and other local charities.

Entry fees for the pageant are $65, which can be paid by sponsorship from a business or individual. Each contestant must submit two wallet-size photos (head shot) of the same pose, taken within the year. Formal wear is required for the pageant.
