Room to run: Chilton Christian Academy football player Nick Haube, left, carries the ball while teammate Chris Lassinger looks for someone to block during Friday’s game against Victory Baptist. The Patriots, in their second year of existence, will try this season to defend their 2011 state championship.

Chilton Christian Academy came out strong in its season opener against Victory Baptist School of Millbrook on Aug. 17.

The Patriots topped VBS 80-38 at home in the first game they’ve played since winning the state championship against Marion Academy last November.

After eight weeks of conditioning and practice this summer, head coach Todd Stephens said, “We’re ready to play.”

The Patriots captured the lead early on and kept it, going into halftime with a 27-point lead.

CCA’s Chris Lassinger was the top scorer with four rushing touchdowns and made three interceptions.

The Patriots closed it out 80-38.

CCA will face their former championship rival, Marion Academy, in a rematch Aug. 31.

CCA plays in the Christian Football Association and started their season earlier than other local football teams.

Games for all other Chilton County teams will start Aug. 30-31.
