Matt Mims and Trey Bryant of Jemison High School are going to play collegiate basketball at Huntingdon College in Montgomery.

They both received the River Region Grant to play there and will start classes in August.

Mims said the fact that Bryant decided to go to Huntingdon had a big impact on his decision. He said that he thought he would enjoy playing with his classmate at the next level. Mims is going to walk on to the basketball and soccer teams at Huntingdon.

He said he will major in biology and plans to get a teacher’s certification.

Huntingdon is a private Christian college, which Mims said had an effect on his choice to attend. He said he did not want to go to a “party” school but instead wanted to go to a school where he could keep God first.

Bryant is projected to play point guard for the Hawks. Bryant was The Clanton Advertiser’s Basketball Player of the Year for the 2011-12 season. The Panthers also won the county tournament last season, based strongly on a deep group of seniors.

Bryant led his team with 15.3 points per game.

Look for the duo at Huntingdon this fall.
