An explosion delayed the National Sheriff’s Association Convention in Nashville on Tuesday, an event attended by Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis.
No one was harmed by the explosion at the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center, Davis said.
Hotel staff told sheriffs at the convention that the explosion was caused by gas leaking out of pipe and into a mechanical room, Davis said.
“I wasn’t in the building when it happened,” he said. “There are some ceiling tiles missing, some heavy damage in that room. The people that were there at the time said it was a very loud boom, and the convulsion off of it, they felt that.”
The convention began on June 13, and Davis said he arrived two days later. The event will conclude Wednesday.
