The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a free women’s self-defense class at the YMCA of Chilton County on Saturday, June 2 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Those who have completed the basic class are invited to attend the advanced class from 1–5 p.m.
The class is for women ages 13 and older, but an adult must accompany anyone under the age of 16. Due to the limited spaces available, classes will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone interested in participating must complete and return the registration form and waiver.
Participants should wear workout pants or sweatpants and a T-shirt. No shorts or tank tops.
Topics to be covered include:
•A winning mindset of individuals
•Attack prevention
•FBI profile and mindset of the attacker
•Punches and other strikes
•Pressure points
•Grabs
•Ground escapes
•Physical attack scenarios
What to bring:
•T-shirt
•Sweatpants
•Closed-toed shoes
Note: Parts of this class will be physically demanding, but so is a real-life attack. Be ready to have a lot of fun learning that basic self-defense is not out of reach.
