Chilton County’s golf team had a rough day Tuesday at the Class 5A state tournament.

The Tigers, in their third ever trip to the state tournament, fell from fourth place in the team standings to tied for fifth at the conclusion of the event.

Their 47-over par showing Tuesday was the worst among the field of six teams by 13 strokes.

“I can’t explain what happened today,” coach Mark Knight said after the conclusion of the event. “We haven’t had a round all year with no one in the 70s.”

Fort Payne won the championship with a two-day score of 609.

The winners were followed by St. Paul’s (614, Briarwood (617), Cullman (650) and Russellville (654).

St. Paul’s Robby Shelton posted the best score at the Grand National golf course in Auburn, a 4-under 140 after two rounds.

Forrest Knight posted CCHS’s best score, a 156. That was good enough for 13th place.

Blake Jenkins was next with a 161 and finished in 20th place.

Ivan Truss shot a 165, finishing in 25th place, and Jordan Lightsey shot a 172 for 29th place.

Mark Knight thanked the team’s sponsors who helped with their trip to the event.
