Chilton County picked a bad time to lose to Brookwood.

Though the Tigers defeated their area foe all three times they played during the regular season, Brookwood won 6-2 on Friday in the first round of a second-round playoff series.

Brookwood benefitted from one timely hit after another, starting pitcher Jackson Cruce was solid throughout and host CCHS made too many mistakes.

Brookwood’s Josh McDaniel scored the first run of the game, in the top of the second inning off Chilton starting pitcher Blake Teel.

The host Tigers (31-6) took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning—scored by Cameron Cummings and Tell—but the lead was short lived as Brookwood tied the game in the fourth inning and scored four runs in the fifth.

Brookwood had five hits in the fifth inning, and three of them were of the extra-base variety.

Kipp Moore came on in relief in the fifth inning. He stopped the bleeding in that frame and didn’t allow a run to cross home plate in the sixth or seventh innings, but the Chilton County batters couldn’t get anything going against Cruce.

No Tiger had more than one hit against Cruce, but catcher Craig Headley drove in two runs with a hit in his only at-bat. He was walked the other two times he stepped into the batter’s box.

If the teams split the first two games, they would play at noon on Saturday at Jack Hayes Field in Clanton.
