Voter turnout low in county for Republican runoff Tuesday

Voter turnout was low in Chilton County for the Republican primary runoff April 24 for Alabama Public Service Commission president, with 413 people voting.

Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh won the race with 253 votes, while her opponent, Chip Brown, trailed with 160 votes in the county.

The contest was the only one on the ballot.

According to unofficial statewide results, Cavanaugh secured about 61 percent of the vote, while her opponent, Chip Brown, a Mobile businessman, received about 39 percent of the vote.

Cavanaugh will run against incumbent Lucy Baxley in the general election Nov. 6, which includes races for president, U.S. Congress, Chilton County Commission and Chilton County Board of Education.
