All together now: Teammates gather at the mound with Chilton County’s J.D. Minor as he makes his first pitching appearance of the season, on Tuesday in a win over Central-Tuscaloosa.

Chilton County’s baseball team clinched its first area championship since 2002 with Tuesday’s 18-0, five-inning win over Central-Tuscaloosa.

The area championship means the Tigers will host the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs, on April 20, against an opponent that has yet to be determined.

All 14 CCHS players who stepped into the batter’s box on Tuesday either scored a run or drove in a run. Plenty of the Tigers did both.

Trenton Bishop was 2-for-2 with a walk, one run scored and one run batted in. Craig Headley was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and one RBI.

Two Chilton pitchers combined to hold Central-Tuscaloosa to four hits. Tyler Maddox pitched the first three innings, and J.D. Minor made his first appearance of the season on the mound and pitched the final two innings.

The Tigers recorded eight hits and 10 bases on balls, and took advantage of six Central errors. Chilton scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, four runs in the second and five in the fourth.
