The Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center has helped residents for almost 30 years in times of need by providing them with food, traveler’s assistance and disaster relief funding.

Recently, Earl Davis of Clanton helped Chilton County United Way acquire $2,500 for the center through the Quality of Life Grant.

The grant is awarded by the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), of which Davis is a member.

“Earl has been a great help with our organization at the Emergency Assistance Center,” said Curtis Smith, United Way board chairman. “We appreciate him approaching the Million Dollar Round Table. We’re just pleased that he had the foresight to approach them for funding.”

Smith and Terry Collier, executive director of the Emergency Assistance Center, presented Davis with a certificate of appreciation March 21.

Davis also helped secure a $5,000 grant for the center in 2003.

“I’ve been trying to help the center any way I could for nine or 10 years,” Davis said.

According to Collier, the center provided hotel rooms for local tornado victims whose homes were damaged.

“We’re behind the scenes,” Collier said. “When people need stuff, they know where to come.”
