Board approves math textbooks, kindergarten registration

With a recommendation from Superintendent Dave Hayden, Chilton County Board of Education members approved for schools to adopt math textbooks in a meeting March 20.

The board also approved kindergarten registration for April 23-26, as well as the monthly financial statement presented by CFO Steve Yeargan.

“In some areas, we’re doing real good,” Yeargan said, naming maintenance and operations as an example. “Right now, we’re in good shape.”

Board members approved leave requests for Jennifer Hicks, Jemison Elementary; Kathy Holley, Clanton Middle; Gina Riley, Maplesville; Dwight Swindle, Jemison High; and Donna T. Velasquez, Clanton Intermediate.

The board approved resignations for Mary Clyde Huff, Central Office; Vicki I. Russo, Verbena; and Dorothy N. Tinsley, Clanton Elementary.

In other business, the board approved the following school requests:

•Chilton County High – Ragan B. Thomas as volunteer assistant with the dance team and band; Band Boosters to fund a $500 salary supplement for Kay Tippett and Julie Harrison as sponsors of the band’s auxiliary units; to pay Tammy Griffin $400, Richard Williams $400, Donnie Hand $1,500 and Ray Sosa $1,500 for helping with Blast Performances; D.J. Promotions to use the auditorium June 2 for a gospel concert; and Agriscience/FFA to hold Farm Safety Day at CCHS on May 5.

•Clanton Intermediate – Tiffany Shannon as contract substitute ($70 per day) April 2 through May 21.

•Isabella – Rex Littleton as track coach with supplement to be paid at the end of the 2012 track season.

•Jemison Middle – To pay a $1,000 supplement to Steve Karn as softball coach.

•Jemison High – Permission for Sandra Cullen and the JHS DECA members to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah for the International Career Development Conference to be held April 28 through May 2.

•Maplesville – Ashlie Harrison as volunteer softball coach.

•Thorsby – Brittany Maddox and Ashlin Hilyer as volunteer coaches.

•Verbena – To accept resignation of Chris Stano as head baseball coach and approve Christopher David as head coach with Chris Stano moving into the assistant coach’s position.

•LeCroy Center – Out-of-state travel for Debra Sosa and student Jessica Tinoco to attend the National HOSA Leadership Conference in Orlando from June 19-24.
