A Verbena man was hospitalized last week after accidentally shooting himself.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said his department was dispatched to the 1000 block of County Road 441 in Verbena about 5:30 p.m. on March 16.

Apparently, a 39-year-old man cleaning his gun outside his residence accidentally shot himself in the hand.

“He was treated and transported to UAB for additional treatment,” Davis said.

The injuries were not life-threatening, Davis said, and the man was the only person injured.

“All the evidence on the scene pointed to it being self-inflicted,” he said.
