Community garden plans continue

Plans to have a community garden in Clanton this spring are well underway.

Pastor Greg Nobles, who is helping organize the effort, said the Clanton Evening Lions Club has taken on the garden as a club project.

The garden will be behind the old Adair School on land being leased inexpensively from the Chilton County Board of Education, Nobles said.

The first soil will be turned over around the middle of April. Local businesses have donated seeds and tools for the garden.

The garden would be great for people who want to grow crops but may not have the room or the ability to get the ground prepared, Nobles said.

“We are looking for anyone who can’t have a garden in their yard,” he said.

Chilton County High School students have expressed interest in the garden too.

For more information about garden or having a plot in it, contact Nobles at 205-389-2141. Volunteers are needed to help with odd jobs.

“It could even become a place of fellowship and friendship that strengthens our community,” Nobles said. “I hope it will help people and be an annual thing for our community.”
