Charles Hobart Owens

Charles Hobart Owens, 92, of Clanton died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Jackson Hospital, Montgomery.

He was born on Friday, Nov. 28, 1919, in Chilton County, son of the late George Matthew Owens and the late Lake Cox Owens.

He was retired in 1966 from Central Alabama Electric Coop and retired in 1985 from Alabama Board of Corrections.

Surviving are his two daughters, Linda (Ron) James of Valley and Joy Smith of Clanton; ex son-in-law, Jimmy Smith of Clanton; grandchildren, Jeff (Susan) James of Prattville, Tammy (Eddie) Stoddart of Prattville, Freida (Neal) Mixon of Millbrook and Misti (Keith) Kelley of Clanton; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew and Ashley Stoddart of Prattville, Alex, Haley and Amber Mixon of Millbrook, and Jarrod, Sydney and Abby James of Prattville; great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Chainey) Moates of Warner Robbins, Ga., Halle Pegram of Clanton, Allison Kelley of Thorsby and Gabriel Kelley of Clanton; great-great-grandchildren, Sierra, Hayden and Conner Moates of Warner Robbins, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Doris Owens and Wilma Owens; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Dickinson Owens; son, Michael Ray Owens; father, George Matthew Owens; mother, Annie Lake Cox Owens; brothers, Shelton, James and Ray Owens; sisters, Jet Noah and Delene Puckett; and granddaughter, Bridgette Smith.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 7 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 8 at New Cedron Church, Billingsley. Interment will follow at New Cedron Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Neal Mixon, Eddie Stoddart, Larry Owens, Michael Stoddart, Keith Kelley and James Owens.
