Chilton County’s Craig Headley (5) receives some advice from coach Josey Shannon during a time out.

Chilton County rebounded from a tough Opening Day of the season to win its first baseball game, 9-3, over American Christian on Thursday.

The Tigers dropped two games on Monday to start their 2012 campaign but on Thursday built a 7-0 lead before visiting ACA scored, in the top of the fourth inning.

Cameron Cummings led off the bottom of the first inning with a base on balls and later scored.

In the second inning, Tyler Crowson began a one-out rally by legging out an infield single. Sawyer Cahalane then doubled to the right field fence.

Crowson was out at home plate on a fielder’s choice, but Cahalane scored on a wild pitch and a Cummings bloop single scored J.D. Minor.

Craig Headley and Trevor Thomas led off the home half of the third with a single and a walk, respectively. Thomas scored on a wild pitch, and Trenton Bishop and Blake Teel touched home plate on a triple by Crowson, who scored on a sacrifice fly.

Thomas, the CCHS starting pitcher, meanwhile was keeping the visitors at bay. He allowed two runs in five innings of work.

Kipp Moore pitched two innings in relief.

Chilton added an eighth run in the fifth inning on a Minor single, and a ninth run on a Teel sacrifice fly that scored Moore.

The second game of a scheduled doubleheader couldn’t be included in this edition.

The Tigers visit Tallassee on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
