Every Chilton County area basketball team remaining in the state playoffs was knocked out on Friday.

Chilton County’s boys team lost to Paul Bryant, 72-53, in the Class 5A, Area 6 tournament; Billingsley’s boys lost to Francis Marion, 75-45, and Thorsby’s boys lost to R.C. Hatch, 102-41, in the Class 2A, Area 7 tournament; Verbena’s boys lost to St. Jude, 74-43, in the Class 1A, Area 6 tournament; and Maplesville’s girls lost to Keith, 60-24, in the Class 1A, Area 5 tournament.

No local team will advance to a sub-state tournament.

Jemison’s boys team led much of the first half against Dallas County in the Class 4A, Area 6 tournament, but a 3-point basket by Dallas County’s Rodrick LeShore at the end of the first half game the Hornets a 30-29 lead heading into the second half.

That’s when DCHS coach Willie Moore made defensive changes he said were key to the Hornets pulling away for a comfortable victory.

“We knew Jemison was going to come in and play hard. They are a senior-laden team with their season on the line,” Moore said. “Too, I think we out-thought ourselves in changing our plan to stop No. 3 (Jemison’s Trey Bryant), because he is a good player and had hurt us in previous games.”

After leading by just one point at the half, the Hornets finished the third quarter up by 15 and continued to pull away.

Dallas County sophomore William Lee led all scores with 27 points, while teammate Markell Harris contributed 18 points. Jerrod Moorer was another Hornet in double digits, with 10 points.

Jalen Hardnett led Jemison with 14 points, while Bryant chipped in 13 points.
