Alabama Power Foundation President Leigh Perry presented a hand-carved plaque of Mitchell Dam to Roger Yeargan, Mitchell Dam Superintendent, on Friday, Feb. 3.

Jack Hasty, a former Alabama Power employee, carved the plaque 26 years ago when he worked at Mitchell Dam.

Hasty displayed the plaque in his home until he donated the plaque to the Alabama Power Foundation in 2011.

Hasty currently lives in Texas.

“The skill and dedication necessary to carve such a plaque is amazing,” said Leigh Perry, President of the Alabama Power Foundation. “This plaque rightfully should be a part of Mitchell Dam’s history. For years to come, countless visitors will have an opportunity to admire the detail of Mr. Hasty’s work.”

The plaque will be permanently displayed in the Mitchell Dam visitor center.

In addition, the Alabama Power Foundation selected Hasty’s granddaughter Danielle Ramirez to be the 2011 Presidential Scholar.

The Alabama Power Foundation awards the presidential scholarship to one outstanding student each year as part of the employee scholarship program.
