John Carl Poarch, age 81 of Verbena, passed away on Feb. 9, 2012, at his residence.

He was born in Birmingham on Aug. 27, 1930; the son of the late Everette Poarch and the late Ida Edrie Rossen.

He was a mechanic with Alabama Power Company.

He is survived by: wife of 58 years, Nancy G. Poarch; son, David (Sherri) Poarch; daughter, Laura (Greg) Green; daughter, Amy (Jimmy) Zachry; son, Steve (Tamara) Poarch; five grandchildren: Andrew, Rebecca, Beth, Alex and Allison; sister, Ann Ellis; sister, Kathleen Stallings; brother, Everette Poarch; and brother, Jack Poarch.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12 from the Verbena Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Ellis and the Rev. Tony Christensen officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow in the Verbena Cemetery.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association.
