Two local basketball teams advance

Two local basketball teams won Tuesday to advance in their respective area tournaments.

Thorsby’s boys team defeated Isabella, 51-43, in the Class 2A Area 7 tournament hosted by R.C. Hatch.

Parker Bryan led all scorers with 24 points, and THS teammate Aaron Thornton scored 10 points for the Rebels.

Deonte Campbell led Isabella with 14 points.

Thorsby will play R.C. Hatch at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a tournament semifinal. Billingsley plays Francis Marion in the other semifinal.

Maplesville’s boys and girls teams played Tuesday, in Class 1A, Area 5 tournaments at Keith High School.

The girls defeated Autaugaville, 46-45. They will play Keith at 6:30 p.m. Friday in a semifinal game.

On Tuesday, Keshia Bailey recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Kiana Andrews had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Ebony Childers chipped in eight points and 13 rebounds.

The boys fell to Sunshine, 52-47, concluding their season.

Jarnez Marzette posted 19 points and eight rebounds for the Red Devils, and Anthony Johnson had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Several local teams play area tournament games on Thursday.
