The Chilton County Commission accepted a bid Monday from local automotive dealer Stokes for a pickup truck to be used by the road department.
County Engineer Tony Wearren submitted specifications for the vehicle to several local and regional dealers, and the Stokes bid of $29,997 was the lowest of four bids received that matched the specs.
Wearren said the truck would be used by one of his crews.
The commission also declared a road department pickup truck as surplus, to be used for parts and then sold as scrap.
Before Wearren’s time in front of the commission was done, he also discussed a project to pave County Road 29, from the intersection with County Road 48 to the intersection with Highway 31.
Wearren said the state would pay for 80 percent of the project if the county paid for the remaining 20 percent. The commission voted unanimously to go forward with the project, which Wearren said could be completed by next summer.
In other business, the commission:
•Heard a report from Chilton County Chamber of Commerce President Mike Robertson. “2011 has been a wonderful year,” Robertson said, and added that 45 businesses have joined the chamber and that there are four new corporate sponsors.
•Discussed a pending empty seat on the county 911 board because EMS is merging with the firefighters association. Both groups currently have one seat on the board. The commission decided to consider the matter further and make a decision next month.
•Accepted a resignation from an employee in Tax Assessor Rex Cleckler’s office and moved to allow Cleckler to begin the process of trying to find a replacement.
