The Chilton County Health Department will hold flu vaccine clinics on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7, 14 and 28 from 8-11 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. each day at the health department.

Flu shots are $15 for anyone who is not on Medicare, and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We would like for people to call and make an appointment on the day they want to come in, and we’ll give them an option on the time,” said Ludean Hicks, clinic supervisor. “We want to get people in and out as quickly as possible.”

Hicks said the health department will receive a minimum of 500 doses of flu vaccine medication for the public.

“In years past, we’ve given 600-800 shots,” Hicks said. “When everybody else runs out, we usually still have flu vaccines.”

Hicks said this year’s vaccine is a regular flu vaccine and is not combined with the H1N1 vaccine as it was in 2010.

Hicks recommended the flu vaccine for children 6 months and older, adults 55 and older, healthcare and public education employees and people with chronic diseases.

“They expect us to get flu vaccines,” Hicks said. “Anybody that’s in healthcare or going to be around the public needs a flu shot.”
