Divers with the Chilton County Sheriff's Department and a regional team based in Montgomery located the bodies of two drowning victims Wednesday near Mitchell Dam.

The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office released the names of two men who drowned this week near Mitchell Dam.

John L. Tice Jr., 63, of Montgomery and Jason P. Thomas, 32, of Marbury were pronounced dead Wednesday after their bodies were recovered by dive teams.

The two friends and Thomas’ 14-year-old son were fishing when their boat began taking on water late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Thomas’ son told authorities he was the only occupant of the boat with a life jacket, and he was able to rest on a piece of concrete in the river until other boaters arrived Wednesday morning and reported the incident.

The victims’ names weren’t originally released, pending notification of their families.
