Ruth Marie Jernigan Brush

Ruth Marie Jernigan Brush, 79 of Granite Quarry, NC passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011, at CMC-Northeast, Concord, NC.

Ruth was born Dec. 16, 1931, in Jackson, Miss., the daughter of the late Samuel Benton Jernigan and Naomi Grace Raney Jernigan.

Ruth was a 1949 Graduate and Valedictorian of Norview High School in Norfolk, Va. She was a full-time homemaker, a pastor’s wife and a mother of six. Ruth attended Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury, and was a member of The Wesleyan Church. Ruth loved her family and loved entertaining her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Andrew Brush.

Survivors: husband, the Rev. Robert “Bobby” Leon Brush Sr., who she married on Dec. 9, 1950; sons, Leon Brush Jr. and wife, Donita of Beckley, W.Va., Byron Brush and wife, Christine of Rockwell, NC; daughters, Beverly Brush Reasoner and husband, Victor of Laurens, SC, Kayren Brush Terpenning and husband, Russell of Concord, NC, Sheila Brush McClanahan and husband, Gary of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Robin Brush Parnell and husband, Jimmy of Stanton; brother, Samuel Benton Jernigan and wife, Ruthie of Wilmington, NC; sister, Sharon Jernigan Davis and husband, Tommy of Wilmington, NC; 20 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Sunday, June 5 at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell, NC.

Funeral services were 11 a.m., Monday, June 6 at Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury, NC, conducted by the Rev. Paul L. Burke, pastor, the Rev. Marion Brown of Evansville, Ind., Dr. Victor Reasoner of Laurens, SC and G.B. McClanahan Jr., grandson.

Mrs. Brush lay in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The burial was held at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell, NC following the service.
