Former Clanton economic development director Obie Littleton dies

Obie J. Littleton, Clanton’s former economic development director and state senator, died Monday. He was 79.

Littleton served as economic developer and building inspector for the city of Clanton for nearly 30 years.

He was elected to two terms in the Alabama Senate in the 1970s and worked with the Chilton County Industrial Board.

He was a past president of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, the Clanton Lions Club and the Jaycees. He was also a Mason with Calera Lodge No. 445 and a longtime member of Clanton First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Clanton.
