Sean Gilham from Impact Martial Arts will present a free women’s self defense clinic with guest instructor Leon Slappey, who has a third degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, on Monday, May 16 from 6:30-8 p.m.

“This clinic will provide very important information about potential threats, how to avoid them and what to do if confronted,” said Gilham. “This is a free community event, and we will be taking donations for She Dances Organization.”

She Dances is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide healing, hope and a future for girls who are victims of human trafficking.

Slappey will be leading the clinic and is the head instructor of the Creative Defense Systems in Pelham, where he teaches Filipino Martial Arts.

Through research and experience, Slappey has established an informative and well-rounded self-defense program that he has taught to numerous women around Alabama, Gilham said.

The clinic is recommended for ages 13 and older. The self defense clinic will be held at Cornerstone Fitness & Wellness and is open to members and non-members of the gym.
