The Chilton County Extension Office will host a sourdough bread-making presentation with Master Gardener Larry Swindler on Wednesday, May 11 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Extension Office.
Swindler offered to demonstrate how to make sourdough bread, one of his main interests, as part of his volunteer hours required in the master gardener program.
“He will have some breads baked already and will show the different steps,” said Gay West, county extension coordinator. “He will also have some in different stages so those in attendance can see the process.”
Swindler will also discuss different starters that are available. He has collected sourdough starters from around the world and has studied the art and science of bread-making extensively.
The cost of the program is $5, and each participant will receive two recipes and a sample of sourdough starter all the way from Berraine, Algeria to take home.
“We can take about 30 people, and so far 23 people have signed up,” said West.
The class is open to the public, but registration is required. The last day to register is the day before the event or until space is unavailable.
“We are encouraging anyone who is interested to sign up quickly because space is limited and the class is filling up fast,” said West.
The extension office is located at 504 First Avenue in Clanton, behind Clanton City Hall.
