Bertha Hayward “Eve” Gibson, age 96, of Verbena passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Katherine Gerber Hayward; and her brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Woodard, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Susan (Robert) Putman, Verbena; four grandchildren, Chris (Konae) Putman, Clearfield, Utah; Jon Woodard, Boulder, Colo.; Greg Putman, Provo, Utah; Samantha Woodard, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and two great-grandchildren, Ryker and Alana Putman, Clearfield, Utah.

Eve was a loving mother and example to all who knew her.  She worked as the secretary at Verbena High School for many years.  Eve was able to travel to visit her family in many parts of the country, especially in recent years, to Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Alaska.  Eve loved to laugh and believed that a great sense of humor was a key to a good marriage and a great life.

In World War II, she lived and worked in Florida with her family, and she enjoyed telling stories of the dirigibles that patrolled the coast and her adventures with her sisters.

Her family wishes to thank everyone who was kind to her over the years, visiting, bringing food and sending cards.

Flowers will be appreciated, but if you wish, in lieu of flowers, consider just going out to enjoy dinner with your family.

Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 18 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at Verbena Cemetery with David Edwards and Buddy Gray officiating.
