The Rotary Club of Chilton County will once again provide two local students with a $1,000 scholarship and a trip to a leadership camp at the end of the month.

The club Friday announced its selections for two Rotary Youth Leadership Awards: Thorsby senior John Gasson and Maplesville junior Cameron Morrow.

Gasson and Morrow will attend RYLA at Camp ASCCA near Dadeville from March 31 through April 3, where they will hear lectures and participate in discussion periods as well as enjoy activities, recreation and fellowship.

The students face no expense for participation in the camp.

Upon completion of the camp and enrollment at an accredited institution of higher education, Gasson and Morrow will also each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

In addition to RYLA, the Rotary Club of Chilton County gives to the community in many ways, including purchasing dictionaries for every public school third grader in the county, sponsoring the Clanton Christmas parade and helping with The Clanton Advertiser’s Newspapers in Education program.

The club raises money through the Peach Classic Fishing Tournament, a golf tournament and other avenues.
