New Life to hold Soup Drive through February

New Life – New Hope, an outreach ministry of New Life Community Church in Clanton, is sponsoring a soup drive next month.

Director Wayne Cole came up with the idea to have the drive after visiting the Chilton County Emergency Assistance Center; he thought it would be a good idea to do something tangible to help the people of Chilton County and get the church involved, said Pastor Scott Springer.

The drive will be held Feb. 1 to Feb. 28. The church’s goal is to reach 1,000 cans of soup that will be donated March 4 to the CCEAC’s food bank.

“We decided this would be a good way to help people and families in need in Chilton County,” said Springer. “It’s our first time having a food drive, and we thought it would be a good project to serve the community.”

The church’s nine life groups (Sunday School groups) have each pledged a goal for the number of cans of soup they will donate.

The church is also having a Super Bowl party in February, and is asking everyone to attend and bring canned soup.

“My life group has pledged 400 cans,” said Springer. “Looking at the pledges, we are expecting to have a lot more than our goal.”

The church is asking anyone who would like to make a donation of cans of soup to do so at the New Life Community Church Office located at 1618 Seventh St. N. in the Chilton Mart next to Baugh Ford. Donations can be made Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. For pick-up, call the church at 755-6485.
