“Make sure you are pinching the nose,” said nurse supervisor Shelly Smith, RN, as she led the administrative CPR class Monday. “Then give two breaths and 30 compressions.”

Special education teachers and assistants, special education bus drivers and assistants and central office personnel are attending a two-day CPR recertification class Monday and Tuesday that is being held at the central office.

“This class is important because the administrators teach children of all ages with special needs and you never know when the skills will be needed,” said Smith. “We’ve never had to use it, but I feel like we might have to one day.”

The administrators followed along with an instructional video as Smith guided them through the presentation. They partnered up and took turns practicing with the CPR dummies and Automatic External Defibrillators (AED).

Three class sessions are being held Monday and Tuesday as the administrators are being refreshed on the proper techniques of CPR, choking and using an AED.
