BOE will keep new superintendent’s pay same

Incoming Chilton County Schools Superintendent Dave Hayden will have the same salary as his predecessor, Keith Moore.

The Chilton County Board of Education voted Tuesday to make no changes to the superintendent’s $95,500 salary. The salary had to be set before Hayden took office and will remain the same for his entire 4-year term.

In other business, the council took the following actions:

•Awarded a bid for two X Mobile Computing Carts and 52 X D620 Core 2 Systems computers to CDI for $24,959. The computers and portable carts for Isabella will be paid for by a technology grant secured by Sen. Cam Ward.

•Granted permission for J. Benton Morton and Jemison High’s Key Club to travel to Stone Mountain, Ga. on Dec. 17.
•Accepted the resignation of William B. Smith as Verbena assistant baseball coach and approved Mark Cleckler as his replacement.

•Tommy Glasscock from LeCroy Career/Technical Center spoke about a dual enrollment program with Jeff State. Starting in January, career/tech students will be able to earn college credit in drafting, welding and certain business classes. Students can currently earn college credit in English.

•Chief Financial Officer Steve Yeargan gave his monthly financial statement and was asked about pending proration. Yeargan told the board that he’s been told soon-to-be Gov. Robert Bentley could enact a 3.5- to 5-percent cut in February.

•Set a special board of education meeting for Monday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m.
