The Lord sent his angel to take Doug Mims home on Sunday at 6:30 a.m., 7 November 2010, at UAB.

Doug was a retired AF SMSgt, 22 years. He, Helen and Vikii lived in foreign countries and states before moving to Alabama in 1974. He farmed and put Helen to work teaching school and in 1987 became maintenance supervisor at the Chilton County courthouse, retiring in 2000.

The Lord blessed Doug with 26 years after open heart surgery. He played on his farm and enjoyed RV camping throughout the United States. He loved to talk with people about hunting, fishing and, especially, Auburn football. Before his illness, he only missed one Auburn game in 20 years, the day he had heart surgery, 30 November 1984.

His parents were Gene and Alice Mims, and Russell and Dorothy Gray.

He leaves behind the loves of his life, Helen and Vikii, and his last gift to them, Gi Gi. Also, a sister, Mitchelene Patterson; brother, Don Mims; and many nieces and nephews.

Doug’s life celebration will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Martin’s Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held from 12:30-2 p.m. Friday at Chestnut Creek Church.
