Chilton County High School’s FFA is giving away smoke detectors Saturday at the school. Shown are FFA officers Will Arrington, Avery McCarley, Payton Knight, Justin Bavar, Brooke Davenport, Blake Patterson, Nelson Wyatt, Jared Hubbert and Candace Pierce and other FFA members.

Chilton County High School’s Future Farmers of America chapter will be giving away free smoke detectors Saturday at the school.

Fifty smoke detectors will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis. People can also enter for a chance to win commercial-grade fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide detectors.

The chapter decided to do the giveaway as a community service project.  Advisor Marlon Harton said the project also follows the FFA Motto of “Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve.”

“We want to invite the community to take part in this event by picking up a smoke detector,” Harton said. “If we can reach 50 front doors in the community, then we will have made homes a bit safer.”

The detectors will be available in the Chilton County High School’s FFA department from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6.
