Verbena, trailing 25-6 at halftime, made a comeback attempt at Notasulga on Friday, but the Red Devils (0-3, 0-2 Class 1A, Region 3) fell short, 39-26.

Junior quarterback Christian Coston accounted for all of Verbena’s points, rushing for four touchdowns and passing for a 2-point conversion.

Coston finished with 150 yards rushing on 12 carries, and he completed seven passes in 13 attempts for 63 yards.

Defensively, Verbena was led by senior Garrett Dennis’ nine tackles. Both junior Marquez Deramus and sophomore Lattrell Jackson finished with eight tackles.
