Douglas Wayne Staggs

Douglas Wayne Staggs, 64, of Jemison went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 13, at home surrounded by his family after a three-year battle of cancer.
He was the son of the late William (JW) and Elsie (Nichols) Staggs. He was married in Greenville, Miss. on Feb 24, 1969, to Patricia Bennett. A graduate of Jemison High School 1965, he lived his life in Jemison. He had a great love and passion for his horses and was a wonderful teacher of horse etiquette. He was a man of few words. He worked as a commercial carpenter for many years.
Douglas was a loving and devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his loving wife, Pat, of 41 years; son, Eric Staggs of Clanton; daughter, Karen (Staggs) Dickerson and her husband John of Thorsby; grandchildren, Rheaven, Rhobyn, Jay Dickerson and Madeline Staggs; four brothers, William and Janet Staggs of Montville, Conn., Richard and Debbie Staggs, Lewis Staggs of Norwich, Conn. and Larry Staggs of Birmingham; sister-in-law, Virginia Staggs of Milan, Tenn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Staggs.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Avery and the Rev. Wayne Hughes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UAB Cancer Center. Martin Funeral Home directed.
