The Chilton County Board of Education will hold two public hearings next month prior to approving its annual budget.

The hearings will be held Thursday, Sept. 2 and Tuesday, Sept. 14 at the central office. Both hearings will begin at 4 p.m.

Members of the general public may request to see information or sign in to make comments or ask questions relating to the budget. Copies of the proposed budget will be available for viewing at the first hearing, and the board will vote on the budget during the second hearing, said Board of Education Chief Financial Officer Steve Yeargan.

Yeargan said that according to law, there must be a minimum of 10 days between the two hearings. The times and dates were approved during a called meeting Tuesday morning.

For more information, call the board office at 280-3000.

In other business, the board will hold a called meeting Thursday, Aug. 5 at 8:30 a.m. to vote on a produce bid for the Child Nutrition Department. There was some confusion about the bid Tuesday, so the measure was tabled for further discussion.
